Tree Care Groundworker
The ground half of a two-person tree crew, and reportedly the single hardest field role in the industry to fill — which makes it one of the easiest to get hired into. You rope, haul, and run the chipper while the climber works above. It is the standard apprenticeship for climbing yourself.
What you'd actually do
- Set up the drop zone and keep the public clear of it
- Rope down cut limbs and feed the chipper
- Keep saws fuelled, sharp, and ready for the climber
- Learn knots, rigging, and how a tree is taken apart safely
